This article describes Pixel Gun 3D content. If you are looking for the same content in Pixel Gun World, see Level (PGW). Moreover, the Leveling System is removed content. Thus, if your are looking for its successor, see the Progress Road.

Levels indicated the progression of a player. They were introduced in Pixel Gun 3D since the 8.2.1 update as the replacement for the former Rank system and was reworked into the Progress Road in the 21.4.2 update.

Experience is needed to level up your character. You can obtain it by playing any of the modes and some minigames. Leveling up in Pixel Gun 3D rewards you with a certain amount of coins and gems, depending on the level. Many weapons and upgrades in the Armory cannot be unlocked until you reach a certain level. The highest level that unlocks weapons is level 65 with Neutron Pulsator.

Levels also affect the matchmaking of players. Players will be always grouped into matches with players of similar levels, but friends of players that aren't in the said player's level group will not be able to join that player's game. However, the use of password-locked custom lobbies ignores this restriction.

The max level was changed 5 times. The first max level is level 36, but it changed to level 38, and then 45. Afterwards, the max level was changed to level 55. Currently, the max level is 65. Many people wonder if the max level will change again and again.

It is confirmed by a Pixel Gun 3D developer that they will not be adding new levels for a long time, due to the controversy associated with their addition. The reason why this was controversial is because of the following: upgrading a weapon to level 55 before 17.0.0 would make it have maximum efficiency, spending around 205 gems on fully upgrading a Mythical weapon if they're patient enough to level up to level 55. Many players grind a lot of gems just to fully upgrade their weapons to level 55 or at least part of their loadout, if not all of it. After 17.0.0, the developers added 10 more levels, where the maximum efficiency was almost doubled, making level 55 Mythical weapons have less efficiency. As a player levels up, the upgrade costs slightly increase, from 205 gems in level 55 to 220 gems in level 65. The players would have to spend 220 gems to fully upgrade their Mythical weapon again and for a full Mythical weapon loadout, they would have to spend 1320 gems just to make their loadout less outdated and to continue the regular gameplay that they pursued before 17.0.0. If the same upgrade system was pursued in a future update where they add 10 more levels, the player would have to upgrade their weapons so that they're efficient again. They would have to spend an estimated 235 gems for each Mythical weapon and 1410 gems for a full Mythical weapon loadout.

Progress Road[]

As the leveling system's successor, the Progress Road was a new feature introduced in the 21.4.2 update for a better playing experience for newer players.

Veteran Chests[]

Veteran Chests, a new feature introduced in the 21.3.0 update, allow max level player to continue gaining Experience in return of a Veteran Chest which contains various rewards such as the Project "Red Button". A Veteran Chest will be given to a player every time he/she accumulates a total of 500 Experience, respectively.

Former Level Groups[]

Before the 11.4.0 update, you can only play with players of the same level group. Then, you play with people that are in the same league as you currently are in. However, this was reverted in the 12.1.0 update.

The matchmaking does not apply to Deadly Games, Sandbox, and Local Games.

Note that levels higher than level 31 weren't implemented at the time level groups were still an available feature. This table indicates the levels and group names of the matchmaking:

Level Group Name
1 None
2-6 Wooden
7-11 Iron
12-16 Golden
17-21 Crystal
22-26 Ruby
27-31 Adamant
32-45 Champion

Note: As of the 11.0.0 update, the developers changed the Armory UI. As of the UI change, auto-upgrading is still a thing, it's just that the final form of the weapon is visible, unlike the first or the second form of the weapon. This also applies to other automatically upgraded weapons, so note that these weapons are usually unlocked in the lower levels.
