This Shotgun is commonly used in the private forces of Block Hampton. Besides the fact it is a great weapon with outstanding characteristics, it also incinerates your enemies.

—Weapon's description in Gallery

The Photon Shotgun is a Primary weapon introduced in the 10.0.0 update.

Description

The Photon Shotgun is a garnet coloured shotgun which shoots shells with a high spread, just like any other shotgun. The kicker is that it shoots incendiary rounds, burning the victim unlucky enough to face this weapon. It has medium fire rate, low to average capacity, and decent mobility.

Appearance

It is a futuristic shotgun with a canister that looks as if there is lava inside it, and what seems to be a collapsible stock. Its main color is a garnet while the rest is a mixture of gold, orange and what seems to be either tungsten or iron.

Performance

The player grabs this shotgun and holds it with both of their hands. It shoots multiple orange bullets in a spread like most shotguns. Since the weapon has the Burning attribute, these bullets can cause burning to the targeted opponent, and therefore, dealing bits of damage over time, similar to the bleeding and poison attribute. There is hitscan for this weapon, meaning that there is zero projectile travel time. Due to this weapon being a shotgun, the closer you are to the opponent, the more damage will be dealt.

When reloading, the player takes out the canister from the bottom and inserts a fresh one. There are no delay mechanics in this weapon, making it viable for Three Category Spam.

Strategy

Tips

  • Use this to severely damage the armour of other players and/or to deal spread damage to a group of enemies.
  • When slightly further away from the opponent than to your liking, switch to your backup and deal damage until you close the gap. Then, switch to this weapon, as it is a two shot kill.
    • Use this in close ranges and aim for the head for maximum effect.
  • This can be used to ambush an unwary player, catching them surprise.
  • Only use it at point blank in close range, as it becomes inaccurate upon the first shot.
  • If the enemy is injured, you don't need to worry about using this at medium ranges, as the burning will finish off the enemy.
  • Avoid open maps, such as Paradise Resort, as Shotguns work better in close quarters maps. Great examples are the Temple of Elements and Pool Party.
  • This weapon is excellent in anti-ambush situations.
  • Reload often as this weapon does not have much ammunition.
    • When reloading, make sure you are safe, or you will be vulnerable to a counterattack.
  • Upgrading this weapon to Epic or Legendary is recommended.

Counters

  • Pick off its users from long ranges.
  • If engaged in a close range combat on one of its users, try to knock them back away from you and finish them off quickly as possible. You can also rocket jump away from them and finish them off.
  • If you are set ablaze by its users, try to run away from them as your are vulnerable to health losses in that event. Overall, avoid its shots, since you will be badly damaged in the process.
  • Any fast fire rate weapons can do a trick.
  • Jump around with a high mobility weapon and then shoot them in the head.
  • Do not engage these users head on, as you have a high chance of being killed.
  • At close ranges, use a shotgun with even more damage like Ultimatum to decimate its users.

Trivia

  • The Photon Shotgun itself bears a small similar appearance to the M45 shotgun from the Halo franchise.
  • Photon is energy, that means the Photon Shotgun could count as an energy shotgun.
  • This is the only Primary weapon and a shotgun weapon to have the 'Burning' trait, except for it's reskin counterpart, the Devastator.
  • It is part of the trio of Photon weapons: The Photon Shotgun, the Photon Pistol, and the Photon Sniper Rifle. They all have the same muzzle.
  • This, and the Devastator are the only primary guns with the burning effect until the introduction of Liquid Fire and Laser Assistant.
  • This weapons grade was changed from Common to Rare in the current Upgrade System, however players who still have it in Common will not have the ability to max it to Mythical.
